Support groups and workshops
Recovery works best when you don't have to do it alone. Our weekly support groups are a place for people who are experiencing challenges with drugs and alcohol to come together and help each other.
What we offer
We run a wide range of free support groups every week to support you at every stage of your journey.
Some are relaxed drop-ins where you can chat and connect with others. Others are focused sessions when you can learn new skills or explore your wellbeing in more detail.
All of our groups are run by staff or experienced volunteers. Many have lived experience of using drugs or alcohol themselves, so they understand some of the challenges you might be facing.

Why join a group?
Being part of a group can help you:
- Meet others who understand what you're going through
- Share ideas and learn new coping skills
- Build structure and routine
- Feel supported and less alone
What happens at a support group?
When you first arrive, you'll get a warm welcome from the person leading the group. This may be a CDAS staff member or an experienced volunteer with lived experience of challenges with alcohol or drugs.
You'll be able to get a tea, coffee, or glass of water before you start, and you'll sit in a circle, usually around a table.
Some people will be new to the group. Others may have been going for some time.

CDAS Online Recovery Warriors
Every Tuesday, 6 pm-7 pm
Online Recovery Warriors is our weekly online support group, hosted by a member of our team.
The group is particularly helpful for people with accessibility needs, childcare or caring commitments, or anyone who finds it easier to join online.
If you'd like to join Online Recovery Warriors, speak to your recovery worker, visit our drop-in, or give us a call.
Who are support groups for?
Our support groups are open to anyone in Stoke-on-Trent who has experienced challenges with drugs or alcohol and would welcome support with managing day-to-day life.
You don't need to stop drinking or using drugs. However, to keep the space safe for everyone, we ask that people are not under the influence when they attend.
Stoke Recovery Service also offers dedicated groups for people who have stopped drinking or using drugs and we run a dedicated weekly Family Support group for families, loved ones, and friends.

Are the groups like AA or NA meetings?
Our support groups are different from NA or AA meetings. Rather than focusing on how you're feeling, they're relaxed, guided sessions where we look at practical ways to manage day-to-day life.
Some people choose to attend both our groups and meetings like NA or AA. It's completely up to you — whatever helps you feel supported.
Ready to talk to our team?
Whether you need advice for yourself or someone close to you, we’re here to listen and support you. You can drop-in, call us, or send us an email - whatever feels easiest.
