Supporting friends and family
It can be hard when someone you care about is experiencing challenges with drugs or alcohol. You might feel worried, unsure how to help, or find it’s starting to affect your own wellbeing.
At CDAS, we’re here for you too. Whether you’re an adult supporting someone you care about, or a young person affected by a parent or carer’s drug or alcohol use, we’ll listen and offer support that makes sense for you.
Help for adults
If you’re an adult worried about someone else’s drug or alcohol use, we can:
- Give you space to talk through your worries in confidence
- Share advice and information about drugs and alcohol
- Help you find healthy ways to support your loved one, while also looking after yourself

Family support group
Our family support group is a safe and friendly space where you can share experiences and learn from others. It runs every week and you don't need to book, just come along when you're ready.
- Every Tuesday
- 6 pm-7:30 pm
- Unit 2, Old Wedgewood Building, Pelham Street, Hanley, ST13LL
Help for young people
If you’re between 5 and 19 years old and someone in your family is using drugs or alcohol, things at home might feel a bit tough, confusing or stressful. Our young people’s team can give you:
- A safe place to talk about what’s going on
- Time with one of our team to understand how to look after yourself and help the person you care about
- Support with things that are important to you - like school, friends, or feeling more confident
